Mother's Day Out

Usually I spend my two days of "mother's day out" to stay in and work. I've been so busy lately filling orders and catching up on business: mother has NOT had a day OUT in a while. So I decided to take the day off today. I went to Old Town Spring and did some fun window shopping. It's a charming little historic village filled with darling overpriced unnecessary items.

The day was gorgeous, the sky was so blue, the breeze was cool, the sun was warm. Perfect. I wasn't pushing a stroller, or counting 1,2,3 for a rebellious toddler to stay close by. Fabulous.

I was enjoying the amazing pipes of Ms. Patty Griffin on the ipod. A beautiful female, Texas musician.

My top fav's from the 1000 Kisses CD: Chief, Long Ride Home, & Making Pies. Then from the Impossible Dream CD: Love Throws a Line, & Top of the World

It was a lovely day. My batteries are recharged, and my creative juices are flowing. I have so many projects swirling in my brain again. I have (a few) extra patience for my children. My advice: All work and no play makes Jill a dull girl. So if you get the chance, take the luxury of a day off!

Funky Finds

I just wanted to thank Jessica of Funky Finds for her post, and kind words. I'm almost as excited about being on Funky Finds as if I was on Martha. :) I've already sold a few of her favorites, but rest assured there are more where those came from. And I've had many queries for custom orders, so I'm going to quit typing and start sewing. Thanks Jessica!

The Stack

Aaaaahhhaaa! Aaaaaahhhhhhaaaa! Fabric. Spring. Fabric. Spring.

Spring. Spring. Spring. Amazing fabrics, and it just makes you want to sew.

Here is a scrumptious-spring stack of my own. Like most seamstresses I am in love with fabric. It is the closest thing I have in my life to an addiction. You can liken it to the drunken Irish father who spends his families wages, intended for food, shelter, milk and clothing, on a pint in the pub. I can't even walk into a fabric store unless I have money allotted to spend. I ration how many visits a month I will make to Jo Ann's, High Fashion Fabrics, or online fabric stores. Because I will spend otherwise intended money. And in every other area of my life I am a "window shopper" and what others might consider "cheap". What is it?

I mean I don't think I need a recovery group, or anything...but it owns a portion of my brain and certainly my heart.

Do any other seamstresses do this:

-Buy fabric and patterns with visions of a project to do. But fold it neatly into some sort of storage and save it. Either because you never take the time to finish it, or because you are saving it? And I'm not talking one or two projects...

-I also hoard fabric. If I love it of course I buy it. But if I really love it, I probably won't ever cut it. That might be a personal thing, not a seamstress thing. I also "save" (ie: not wear) my favorite clothes. I save them in my closet??? What is that?

-And scraps...how many of us save our scraps, but have no earthly idea what to use them for? I have many uses for a decent sized scrap, but I get ridiculous sometimes. I mean the green bean size scrap SHOULD be thrown away. Let it go, man, let it go.

(looks like a fellow group member, hello my name is blank and I am a fabric addict.) That could be a whole blog in itself. If you are a fabric addict leave a comment or email a pic, and we'll have some sort of dedicated section.

The Bluebonnet Festival

"Jed" is tired.

Well I'm back. The Bluebonnet Festival was a success, not without some obstacles, but a success none the less. I'm busy with custom orders, and website updates. Give me one more week and I might finally be happy with my website and etsy shop.

Okay Friday was around 84 degrees. I set up shop late, because I saw there would be rain that morning. There was no rain that morning, but about 45min after I set up, the sky grew dark and we had a tornado heading right toward us. So I packed back up. Luckily no tornado! Saturday was beautiful, it was cold which I love, but it was a bit too windy for most shoppers. Then Sunday was hot again. That's Texas for you. If you don't like the weather, stay a while (it WILL change).
Getting out in a hurry on Friday night.
Look at those shirts flapping in the wind on Sat.
Perfect on Sunday.
I made a new friend. Cheryl from http://www.asoapaliciousdream.com/page5a.html
She was fabulous. It's great when your neighbors are so friendly. Her handmade soaps are so nice, and her lip balm is wonderful. She makes it all herself.
I'm off to fill orders. Thank you to all that came out to the Bluebonnet Festival, and a double thank you to all my new customers.
Sarah
PS keep checking back to my website. I am working feverishly to update it, and my etsy shop.
